World Sailing Safety at Sea
Just looking back at the World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival Course lead by Diane Reid at the Humber college pool. We spent a day discussing and handling safety equipment including packing and unpacking PFDs, testing PLBs and testing out equipment to cut rigging.
The second day was focused on experiencing replying PFDs in the pool, swimming with heavy weather clothing and deploying life rafts.
The course ended with the students lighting flares and putting out fires with extinguishers.
I didn’t expect it to be so straining to get into a lift rafts and even more difficult to aid someone else in getting in.
This certificate is required for most offshore races and might help me find myself as crew on boats looking to have crew with this requirement.
