TWIS – So Much To Share – Look Up Damn’it! – EYC Regatta – Commit With Grace

So Much To Share

Man, it’s been too long, almost 3 months since getting some some hopefully interesting stuff up here in the rare chance of posterity. Most of my sailing time has been sorting out foredeck hacks and figuring out who’s boss in my burgeoning relationship I have with this sassy new boat of mine who seems to be preoccupied with making sure I am aware of every possible thing that could go wrong with her prior to heading out to sea. More on that soon as I need to dedicate a post to to the shenanigans we have been thru an it’s only been less than two months. It’s an epic chapter, most of it hard to believe and the rest will be difficult to put in words. Kind of like that wild 7th inning in game 5, Jays vs. Texas which ultimately peaked with Bautista’s epic bat flip. Sneak peak below juxtaposing her real beauty as I set her down in a swamp in Wilson NY. She is a real beauty… safe, fast and slightly mischievous. Currently responding to the name Flight Risk, but I have heard whispers that she might go by another name. (Don’t forget to write about Sail Style!)

Look Up Damn’it!

From the lessons department – always look up and sort out there things are comin’ from before doing anything else with a line, halyard, sheet, rope, etc. An don’t stub your toe while your looking up. lol!

EYC Regatta 2023

While I am waiting to figure out what is happing with my misbehaving boat – I am looking to have some fun with pals. Hopped on the mighty MegaWatt for some foredeck capers as we joined for the Saturday portion of the annual EYC Regatta. The wind was a bit on the light side, sunny with some rain and just a bit weird on and off for the day. We managed two races before things got to quiet. Lots of fun and scrumptious snacks! I think we placed 4 and last out of nine in our start! Woot! 🙌🏻

Commit With Grace

This is one of those sailing philosophy things, one of an infinite amount as they build up as your linger on the sailing topic. Just when you think you have something dialed in, like a simple pilotage job of leaving from the wall in light wind – I totally brain bounce. I was looking to make sure no crew got left behind on our Thursday night at the races jam and, heading checked that box, planned to head out to the lake by myself. I half committed to shoving off, had my 2.3 hp engine a little spicy and totally rammed the Shark in front of me. Lesson here – think it thru and commit. Had I pushed off with some affirmation I wouldn’t be short a few pilotage points.
